It is very hard not to enjoy what Keanu Reeves and the directing duo of Chad Stahelski/David Leich have done with the first two installments . The story itself was simple: A low-key, but lethal hitman gets brutally beaten up by gangsters and, more importantly, his dog gets killed, which flicks off a switch in his head to exact the ultimate revenge. On a $20 Million budget the first filmmade $86 Million at the box-office, but, more importantly, it became an enormous hit on streaming services and home video. "John Wick: Chapter Two" made $92 Million at the domestic box-office.

Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan already won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festivalback in 2014 with his talky epic "Winter Sleep," a shocking win if you ask me since that film is considered one of his weaker entries. Me? I'll always love "Once Upon A Time In Anatolia" a meditative but thoroughly gripping murder-mystery that very much feels like the more minimalist and, almost, equally brilliant counterpart to David Fincher's "Zodiac."

Jackson’s remake of “Shaft” back in 2000, then again I’m not necessarily a fan of the 1972 Richard Roundtree-starring original, it’s all part of the silliness of Blaxploitation, give me “Superfly” any day of the week. But, count me as looking forward to this father and nephew duo sequel, along with Shaft III aka John Shaft Jr. aka JJ (played by Jessie Usher) in the upcoming, still, titled “Shaft.” Yup, three film with the same goddamn title. It was originally titled “Son of Shaft.”

“Dogman” turns out to be a kind of David vs. Goliath story. Described as an urban western, while the drama does possess traces of Eastwood’s early no-frills gut-punches, it’s also very much a B-movie soaked in horror and revenge. It finds director Mateo Garrone back in fine form and mostly, at the height of his game; the allure of his monstrous antagonistic character is undeniable and he earns extra credit for creating one of the most reprehensible movie villains in recent memory.

Claire Denis‘ "High Life" had an underwhelming world premiere at the Roy Thomson Hall during the Toronto Film Festival, for which I attended. Around half the audience had already left the theater by the time the film ended, you could just tell nobody was into it. And this is coming from a fest that prides itself in having the best audience in the world. Even Toronto audiences couldn't deal with the metaphorical artsy ambitions that were unfurling on-screen. And I don't mean that as a detraction of Denis' mad ambitions in "High Life," which, by all accounts, warrants a repeat viewing on my part. For now, I'll refrain from reviewing "High Life," until I watch it a second time, but Denis will have her widest audience ever for this sci-fi film, which has her working with the biggest budget of her career and stars Robert Pattinson. And by sci-fi I don't mean something akin to Christopher Nolan, this is Claire Denis after all, she makes personal films that are all but impenetrable for mainstream moviegoers.

Peter Parker will be back on the big-screen this summer in “Spider-Man: Far From Home.”
This is, of course, the sequel to "Spider-Man: Homecoming," a successful reboot of the webslinger franchise. Director Jon Watts ("Cop Car") is back at the helm, but, more intriguingly, the film will be set in Europe as Peter and company go on summer vacation. Added to the cast is villain Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal), who will be joined by "Homecoming" antagonist Vulture (Michael Keaton).

‘Arctic’ Trailer: Mads Mikkelsen Survival Film Recalls ‘127 Hours,’ ‘All Is Lost’ and ‘The Grey’
In "Arctic," directed by Joe Penna, Mads Mikkelson plays Overgård, a man whose plane has crashed, leaving him stuck in the wintry landscape of Antarctica, where the extreme conditions could lead to death if help doesn’t come soon enough. Overgård clearly has solid survival skills: he transforms the plane into a warm shelter, and he concocts devices to catch fish from what is left of the plane wreckage. He’s even found a way to radio for help through a handy transmitter. However, when the rescue does finally show up though, nothing goes as planned. A turbulent snowstorm causes another plane crash with the only survivor a young woman who goes in and out of consciousness. From there, Overgård decides to head further north on a harrowing journey to reach a rescue station. Carrying the woman’s body on a sled, Overgård’s heavily-charged trek is a daunting one. Despite the beautiful natural scenery, the wintry mountains are savagely precarious and one misstep can spell doom.

Consider me a tad intrigued by this first trailer of Jordan Peele's "Us," which is his sophomore effort, after the triumph that was "Get Out." There's no doubt in my mind that Peele is a promising filmmaker, his debut made waves in a manner that could be compared to Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs," it shook the industry. Peele ended up winning the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in the process.
