‘Velvet Buzzsaw’ Trailer: Jake Gyllenhaal Reunites With ‘Nightcrawler’ Director for Arthouse Horror

January 10, 2019 Jordan Ruimy

Consider me intrigued by Dan Gilroy's "Velvet Buzzsaw," by far, my most anticipated film of this year's upcoming Sundance Film Festival. This is quite clearly a return to the societal underground malaise that Gilroy tackled with Jake Gyllenhaal in "Nightcrawler."

‘Buzzsaw’ is supposed to premiere on Netflix February 1st.  This could mean one of two things a) Netflix does not believe it will be remembered come awards consideration next December but still think they have a solid movie here or b) they are trying to just dump it, with absolutely no confidence in it, thus the early year release. I believe it could be the former.

Official Synopsis:

“After a series of paintings by an unknown artist are discovered, a supernatural force enacts revenge on those who have allowed their greed to get in the way of art.”

All art is dangerous. Watch #VelvetBuzzsaw on #Netflix 1 February, 2019. Velvet Buzzsaw is a thriller set in the contemporary art world scene of Los Angeles where big money artists and mega-collectors pay a high price when art collides with commerce.
