“Home Alone” has become one of the essential Christmas movies. Every holiday season, the film tops the streaming charts and it’s still #1 on Disney+ as we speak.

Jason Reitman screened “Saturday Night” for Chase and many other SNL alums, and he tells the Fly on the Wall podcast that Chase’s reaction was exactly what you’d expect from such an off-the-cuff and unpredictable human being:

The Independent has decided to rank the 60 best actors of the 21st century. Their list is topped by the late Phillip Seymour Hoffman. What I will say is that Hoffman is certainly up there with the greats, but was he better than Daniel Day-Lewis?

An interesting development when it comes to Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey.” It looks as though Ludwig Göransson will be composing the score of the film, and not Nolan regular Hans Zimmer.

How many bombs is too many bombs? That’s the question currently being asked over at Lionsgate, a studio that’s coming off a 2024 filled with epic flopbusters like “The Crow,” “Borderlands,” “Megalopolis,” “Never Let Go,” and “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.”

A recent THR piece had Pixar removing a transgender character’s storyline from their upcoming “Win or Lose.” The character at the center of the show will also now “be portrayed as cisgender.”

Netflix execs have been telling their screenwriters to have characters “announce what they’re doing” so that viewers who have a program on in the background can follow along without having to miss plot strands. There’s barely been any pushback, until now.

It’s fair to say that Warner Bros has absolutely no idea how to position “Mickey 17” on their release calendar. Bong Joon-ho must be frustrated by the constant shifts in scheduling.

Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu’s tentatively titled “Judy,” starring Tom Cruise, started filming/rehearsing in November, and will restart shooting in January. Warner Bros has just dated it for October 2, 2026 release.

Matt Reeves’ “The Batman: Part II” has been delayed by a whole year to October 1, 2027. This move has been a long time coming, and it’s now been made official by Warner Bros.

According to Bloomberg, Netflix is targeting a December 2026 release for “The Chronicles of Narnia” movie from Greta Gerwig. Negotiations for a theatrical release with IMAX and Gerwig continue.

No surprise, Andy Muschietti is now telling the California Secreta podcast that his Batman movie, “The Brave and the Bold,” has been postponed , and that he’s now working on another project instead.

Cinematographer Linus Sandgren is going to have a busy schedule next year. The Swedish-born DP has in the past worked with David O. Russell, Damien Chazelle and Gus Van Sant, but it’s only in these last few years that his stock has really risen up.

Sources close to the production are telling DanielRPK that the script is being significantly rewritten, with Marvel boss Kevin Feige leading the way in the creative input. The goal is to “elevate” the original script which apparently wasn’t to Feige’s liking.

After ‘Kraven’ bombed this month, Sony’s misbegotten Spider-Man antihero franchise of films, which also included ‘Venom,’ “Morbius,” and “Madame Web,” was put on pause. A “recalibration” is now in order for the future.

Some incredible Christmas Day numbers, for three movies in particular, and none of them are “Wicked” or “Moana 2.” Exhibitors must be through the roof happy about these overperformances.

“Wicked” releases on VOD next week, December 31st. Just over a month after the film began its theatrical release. They waited until the Christmas rush was done before announcing the date.

A major fan of “Nosferatu” is Sean Baker, who happens to have directed the year’s most acclaimed film (“Anora”). In a post on X, Baker says “Nosferatu” might be the best movie he’s seen all year.
