We’re now four months out from release, and Marvel is finally starting to pull back the curtain on its next Avengers movie. The studio has unveiled the second trailer for “Avengers: Doomsday,” giving us another look at what is shaping up to be the studio’s biggest movie in years. The trailer has already garnered 1.5M views on YouTube, and it’s only been online for half an hour.
The new footage, which Marvel is calling a “special look,” was released alongside Marvel Studios’ presentation at Disney’s D23 2026. We get to see the X-Men going up against the MCU’s new Avengers team. It also gives us our first real taste of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, including his voice and accent. It all just looks really uninteresting. The cinematography is plain ugly.
The trailer doesn’t exactly paint a sunny picture. In fact, things look pretty miserable in Marvel land. Sue Storm is seen in tears, while Doctor Doom appears to be on a revenge tour following the apparent death of his wife and son.
Pretty much everyone else looks equally miserable. Magneto, Gambit, Steve Rogers and several other heroes are battered, bruised and staring like they’ve just received their mortgage bills. Sue tells Reed that Victor is “broken,” which probably isn’t something you want to hear about the man currently trying to destroy your universe.
Things get considerably worse when we see an entire city in ruins. Reed Richards confronts Doom and can barely process what he’s done. “Victor, did you do this?” he asks. Doom then jumps out of a window and crashes to the ground. Reed continues screaming at him — “Answer me, Victor, did you do this?!” — and because things weren’t already bleak enough, Doom then raises an army of Sentinels.
Beyond the emo nature of the trailer, this is going to be an incredibly expensive movie. The budget is reportedly approaching $400M, putting it well above the reported $356M cost of “Avengers: Endgame.”
The official synopsis has Doctor Doom entering the MCU with science and sorcery, while the rest of the cast is basically a who’s-who of Marvel. Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Chris Evans’ Captain America and Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards are all part of the massive ensemble.
THR recently reported that Marvel is currently targeting a 2-hour, 45-minute runtime, which would make it the second-longest MCU movie behind “Endgame.” That number isn’t final, though, and the film is still being worked on in the editing room. Considering the Russo brothers have to juggle the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom in one movie, it’s not hard to see why.
“Avengers: Doomsday” arrives in theaters on December 18, 2026.
