Ludwig Göransson to Score Christopher Nolan's ‘The Odyssey'

December 28, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

An interesting development when it comes to Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey.” It looks as though Ludwig Göransson will be composing the score of the film, and not Nolan regular Hans Zimmer. Knowing Göransson’s fervent commitment to projects, don’t be surprised if he travels to ancient Greece just to find exotic Greek instruments for the score.

In 2019, Göransson was announced as composer for “Tenet.” This surprised many. It turned out that Göransson was chosen after Nolan's frequent collaborator and first choice, Zimmer, turned down the offer in favor of Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune.” Göransson was brought back for Nolan’s following film, “Oppenheimer,” which ended up winning him the Oscar for best original score.

So it seems as though Zimmer might have fallen out of favor with Nolan, and Göransson has now become the filmmaker’s go-to for music composition. Göransson’s other film and TV credits include “Creed,” “Black Panther,” “Atlanta” and “The Mandalorian.”

The same exact situation happened with DP Hoyte van Hoytema who has become Nolan’s recurrent cinematographer ever since 2014’s “Interstellar.” Originally, Wally Pfister was Nolan’s DP of choice, but a decade ago, Pfister decided to embark on a since-failed career as a director (“Transcendence”). Last we heard from Pfister, he had shot a Crypto commercial in 2021.
