Last week I received A24’s screeners package by mail. Every notable film from their 2022 slate was present, except for Darren Aronofsky’s “The Whale.”

“Top Gun: Maverick” will be re-released in theaters from Dec. 2 through Dec. 15 and will play in 1,850 locations. No coincidence, “Avatar: The Way of Water” will be released the day after ‘Maverick’ is pulled from theaters.

Cahiers du Cinéma have awarded their first annual Bazin Prize for Best First Film to Panah Panahi’s “Hit the Road.” In case you’re wondering, Panah is Jafar’s son.

A report claims that Aaron Taylor-Johnson had a secret screen test with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli at Pinewood studios, and it went very well:

UPDATE: Damn. This isn’t good. “The Fabelmans,” which I rewatched this weekend, and enjoyed many moments, will open at around $2.2 million.

Disney’s animated movies generally fare very well with audiences, but their latest offering is turning into somewhat of a fascinating enigma.

Some people thought I was crazy declaring Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis” an Oscar contender way back in May, but I saw something in this film that made me believe it would be immensely liked by AMPAS voters.

UPDATED: Apple is screening Antoine Fuqua’s “Emancipation” in NY and LA. on Wednesday, just a day before Thursday previews begin for the film.
