New Trailer for Damien Chazelle’s ‘Babylon’ Released …

November 28, 2022 Jordan Ruimy

UPDATED: Here it is. The camera swirls, the crane shots, the zooming closeups … Chazelle is going for broke here. Good luck marketing this movie. No discernible plot in this latest trailer, just a bunch of ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ styled debauchery (which is fine by me).

EARLIER: Here’s some good news. Damien Chazelle’s “Babylon” will have a new trailer released on Monday.

Back in late September, there was a first trailer released that seemed to disappoint a lot of people. They were probably expecting something entirely different than what they ended up seeing.

Regardless, “Babylon” has screened just twice (both in L.A. and NYC) to some of the most polarizing reactions I’ve witnessed in quite some time. Either people go along with Chazelle’s 3-hours of debauchery or they don’t. Margot Robbie is said to be very good in it, ditto Jean Smart.

I couldn’t make it to the New York screening due to illness, but I’ll be watching it this coming week. The review embargo, I’m being told, is still in place, you can’t write about the film, just tweeting is allowed. “Babylon” is only getting released on December 23rd.

The film is currently at #7 on Gold Derby’s consensus list of 40+ Oscar “experts.” Damien Chazelle is #5 for Best Director. Margot Robbie #5 in Best Actress. Diego Calva #7 in Best Actor.
