Martin Scorsese Praises ‘Nosferatu': “Amazing"

February 7, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Earlier in the week, Martin Scorsese joined TCM’s Dave Karger for a 92Y-sponsored conversation about his storied career and the films that inspire him the most.

Scorsese admits his recent preference is watching horror and thriller movies (“not the ones with gore”), especially when it comes to newer releases. This checks in with his recent praise for genre filmmakers such as Ari Aster, Ti West and Jane Schoenbrun.

In case you’re wondering, Scorsese’s seen the most significant horror release of the last few months: Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu.” No surprise, he’s not just a fan of the film, but seems to admire Eggers’ entire filmography.

It’s amazing. Anything this guy does, amazing. That’s one film you don’t do much after seeing. You’re still in the world. You’re in Transylvania and it’s really … [laughs] Man, he’s something.

Scorsese tends to rarely weigh in on modern-day cinema, so whenever he does, it’s always enjoyable to take note. Other recent releases he’s praised include Todd Field’s “TAR,” Spike Lee’s “BlacKKKlansman,” Kornel Mundruczo’s “Pieces of a Woman,” and Joanna Hogg’s “Archipelago.”
