Here’s The InSneider reporting that Joe Cornish (”Attack the Block”) is in early talks to direct “Dark Park” for Netflix. Cornish has written and directed multiple episodes of “Lockwood & Co.” for the streamer, so this checks out.
Not just that, Millie Bobby Brown, who is a Netflix star with “Stranger Things” is in talks to star in Cornish’s film. Brown is basically the streamer’s main in-house actress with three Netfkix movies in the works: “Enola Holmes 3,” “Just Picture It,” and the Kerri Shrug biopic “Perfect.”
I’ve always wondered why she didn’t drop the “Bobby” from her name—it’s rather unfortunate. Doing so at the start of her career might have helped; “Millie Brown” sounds less imposing and would have better distanced her from Bobby Brown.
Alright, back to regularly scheduled programming… “Dark Park” is a horror film about a group of young people who dare to enter a haunted amusement park, where every ride could be their last.
Cornish, it’s worth remembering, has only directed one film since “Attack the Block” — the 2019 fantasy adventure “The Kid Who Would Be King” — but he very recently stated that he would be shooting the sequel to that movie in 2026.
Cornish hasn’t directed more movies mainly because he’s highly selective and many of his projects have stalled in development; he’s admitted to having projects take longer to fund and produce due to the current climate in the industry — might as well make a sequel.
“Attack the Block” was a visually accomplished picture, set in a gritty urban South London milieu, tackling everything from youthful delinquency and class tensions to an alien invasion — all wrapped in bold style and sharp humour. The film remains a cultish gem.
