A slew of anticipated titles have not appeared at TIFF, NYFF and Venice. Does this mean a possible 2020 release for Todd Haynes‘ “Dark Waters," Josh Trank’s "Fonzo,” Jay Roach’s “Fair and Balanced" Chloe Zhao‘s “Nomadland" Reed Morano’s “The Rhythm Section,” Scott Cooper‘s “Antlers," Benh Zeitlin’s "Wendy" and Dee Rees’ "The Last Thing He Wanted"? However, before we cast these titles aside, one must look ahead at the upcoming AFI Film Festival, which has become of significant importance these last few years. Studios sometimes hold up their potential awards contenders for the very bitter end of the year and those titles tend to premiere at AFI. Also, Telluride still hasn’t announced its lineup yet, so there is reason believe that they might snatch one or two of the above-mentioned titles.

— Film critic Glenn Kenny tweeted what I told Hollywood-Elsewhere’s Jeffrey Wells on Saturday, that we should not expect Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” to be another “Goodfellas” or “Casino.” I told Wells, during our podcast, that “The Irishman” will no doubt feel like it was “made more by the guy who made Silence than the guy who made Goodfellas.” I stand by that assertion, especially after having read the book the film is based on (Charles Brandt’s “I Heard You Paint Houses”) and then Steven Zaillian’s magnificent 10-year-old screenplay.
— And finally, It seems like Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women” will finally debut its much-anticipated trailer tomorrow. Will this coincide with the aforementioned TIFF announcement?
