A few updates regarding David Robert Mitchell’s “The End of Oak Street,” which is inching closer to release.
After more than a year of editing, the film is finally in the can, and proof of that is that it just received a PG-13 rating from the MPA. If you remember, it was originally titled “Flowervale Street” and was supposed to be released in May 2025 before Warner Bros. delayed it by more than a year to August 2026.
Furthermore, the film, which had test screenings in the 100–105-minute range a year ago without credits, now has an official runtime of 1 hour and 39 minutes, meaning some additional footage was cut from the tested version.
Still, an $85M major studio film with that short of a runtime? Music to my ears.
The film stars Ewan McGregor, Anne Hathaway, Christian Convery, and Maisy Stella. Set in a suburban neighborhood during the 1980s, the story centers on a family going through a difficult period. Without warning, their entire community — Flowervale’s Oak Street — is mysteriously transported back to prehistoric times by an unknown supernatural phenomenon.
A few people I spoke to who have seen the film tell me that it delivers suspense and feels like an old-school Spielberg movie — no surprise, given that the film is set in the ’80s and now has that safe PG-13 rating.
Mitchell, best known for the decade-defining horror film “It Follows,” and whose last feature was released eight years ago (“Under the Silver Lake”), is set to have a busy year, as he is currently shooting “They Follow,” with Maika Monroe returning in the lead role.
“The End of Oak Street” is set to hit theaters on August 14, 2026, via Warner Bros.
