I’m starting to get worried about Paul Greengrass’ next film, “The Uprising,” starring Andrew Garfield. Not only is it skipping the fall fests, but now it has seemingly been revealed to be a… Robin Hood origin story?!
A few hours ago, the social media handle for Greengrass’ latest posted a new poster, a handful of stills, and short clips — and a new title has emerged: “The Uprising: Rise of Robin Hood.” Wasn’t this supposed to be about Wasn’t this film supposed to be about Wat Tyler and the 1381 Peasants’ Revolt?
How bad must tracking be that they decide to change the title two weeks out, but are also now leaning into it being a Robin Hood movie? And that’s despite this summer’s “The Death of Robin Hood” bombing hard at the box office. It’s not like the character is lucrative IP.
“The Uprising: Rise of Robin Hood” is coming out on September 11, 2026, via Focus Features. The film centers on the 1381 Peasants’ Revolt, one of England’s most significant uprisings, sparked by economic hardship, political unrest, and heavy taxation. Andrew Garfield stars as a rebellion leader.
Alongside Garfield, the film also stars Jamie Bell, Stephen Dillane, Tom Hollander, Cosmo Jarvis, Thomasin McKenzie, Jonny Lee Miller, Woody Norman, and Katherine Waterston.
I want Greengrass to succeed, I really do. He’s made a handful of great films throughout his career, including “Bloody Sunday,” “United 93,” and “The Bourne Ultimatum,” but something tells me “The Uprising: Rise of Robin Hood” won’t join that elite company. He’s coming off last year’s Apple-produced “The Lost Bus,” a decent disaster movie about wildfires.
