Here’s the trailer for Timothée Chalamet’s next film, which happens to be animated. Chalamet and Selena Gomez are set to star in Illumination’s “Not Alone,” which hits theaters in April 2027.
Chalamet voices Joe, an “introverted rocket mechanic who lives a quiet life alone,” according to a press release, while Gomez plays Fran, a “brilliant astro-botanist who is developing the world’s first-ever plant-fueled rocket.”
When Joe and Fran team up to prepare for the first launch of the groundbreaking rocket, sparks quickly fly, though neither has much experience when it comes to romance. Things take an unexpected turn when three tiny, mischievous aliens — Dunk, Welly, and Shirm — hide out in Joe’s home while fleeing Zandro, a determined but bumbling interplanetary law officer. As the trio searches for a way back to their home planet, they set their sights on Fran’s rocket as their ticket to safety.
“Not Alone” is directed by Eric Guillon (“Despicable Me 3”), the longtime designer behind the “Despicable Me” and “Minions” franchises. Guillon co-directs with Claire Dodgson and Jonathan Del Val (“Minions: The Rise of Gru” and “The Secret Life of Pets 2”).
Known for its family-friendly storytelling, colorful animation, and broad comedic appeal, Illumination has become one of animation’s most successful studios thanks to blockbuster franchises such as “Despicable Me,” “Minions,” and “The Secret Life of Pets,” while also finding success with films like “Sing” and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.”
The film marks a change of pace for Chalamet, who has barely stopped working since 2021, appearing in eight movies, including recent turns in “Wonka,” “Dune: Part Two,” “A Complete Unknown,” and “Marty Supreme.”
Up next for Chalamet is “Not Alone,” but in terms of live-action projects, he also has “Dune: Part Three” scheduled for release in December and James Mangold’s “High Side,” a motocross saga that remains in development. He is also quietly attached to Warner Bros.’ “Lupin the Third.” No writer or director has been announced yet, but David Heyman (“Harry Potter”) is producing. Chalamet would star in the film adaptation based on the adventures of the legendary French master thief.
