Paul Dano Joins Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson in India Donaldson's ‘The Chaperones'

November 3, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

UPDATE: Paul Dano has joined the cast of Donaldson’s film. This is looking more and more promising by the day. I presume Dano — a commendable actor — plays the “troubled friend” that Hoffman and Jonsson have to drive cross country.

EARLIER: India Donaldson has set up her sophomore effort, this time with A24’s backing. Titled “The Chaperones,” the film is also being produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B Productions. The biggest update concerns casting: after “The Long Walk,” David Jonsson and Cooper Hoffman are set to reunite for Donaldson’s film.

Set days after Christmas, the story revolves around four characters—two friends and their dealer—tasked with transporting their troubled friend across the country in their pickup. Production on “The Chaperones” is scheduled to begin in late October. A 2026 release is no doubt in the cards.

Last year, Donaldson’s “Good One” earned raves at Sundance and Cannes. This Reichardt-esque indie, made for just a couple of million dollars, followed three characters on a camping trip and went on to win the National Board of Review Award for Best Directorial Debut.
