Here’s a major setback for Michael B. Jordan’s “Thomas Crown Affair” reboot which had already started production in London.
Taylor Russell, who was the co-lead, alongside Jordan, has departed the film in the middle of shooting. According to Deadline, her exit stems from “creative differences.” Amazon/MGM is currently trying to recast the role.
Who knows what these “creative differences” were, but the fact that Russell decided to bow out as production was happening means they were significant enough. Regardless, the fact that cast and crew have decided to continue shooting without Russell means there’s currently a frantic search for her replacement.
Jordan, who’s also directing, headlines the project as the titular Crown—a wealthy, thrill-seeking art thief who orchestrates elaborate heists more for the adrenaline rush than the payout. This is a remake of the 1968 film starring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway.
The rest of the cast includes Lily Gladstone (“Killers of the Flower Moon”) and veteran actor-director Kenneth Branagh. Most enticing, Bradford Young (“Arrival”) is the DP, and this is the first film he’s lensed in nearly seven years.
The film had been set up as Jordan’s sophomore effort, following his debut behind the camera with “Creed III.” Amazon/MGM Studios is planning an exclusive theatrical release, no streaming shortcut here, on March 7, 2026.
