Also getting theatrical treatment from Netflix — and quite the anomaly — is Steven Knight’s “Peaky Blinders” movie starring Cillian Murphy. Why would Netflix do this? Not quite sure. After all, this is a film based on Knight’s acclaimed TV series. Maybe Knight had a deal with Netflix before signing on to the movie.
Hey, I’m not complaining. If Netflix continues giving theatrical releases to its major titles, that’s a semi-win for exhibitors.
Below the first official trailer, the film’s official title has been revealed as “Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.” Netflix also announced that the movie will screen theatrically beginning March 6, 2026, before moving to streaming on March 20, 2026.
Knight told The Playlist that he’s seen an early cut of the film — tentatively titled “Immortal Man” at the time — and that it’s “mind-blowingly good.” Given that he’s speaking about his own film, I wouldn’t put much stock in that assessment.
In “The Immortal Man,” Murphy reprises his role as gangster Thomas Shelby. The cast also includes Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth, Stephen Graham, and Rebecca Ferguson. Tom Harper (“The Aeronauts”) has been confirmed as director; he previously directed the second half of the first season of “Peaky Blinders.”
Set in 1919, in the aftermath of the Great War, “Peaky Blinders” followed criminal gangs fighting for survival in a nation rocked by economic upheaval. The series focuses on one of the most powerful gangs of the time, the Peaky Blinders, led by returning war hero Thomas Shelby and his family.
Premiering in 2013, the show’s fanbase grew at a slow but steady pace throughout its six-season run, with many fans discovering “Peaky Blinders” on Netflix. Knight has said the appeal of making a film came from wanting fans to experience it together in a theater — a wish that now appears to have been granted.
