A few weeks ago, I wrote about how the late Sam Neill had filmed four projects back-to-back over the past year, all of which would be released in the coming months. We now know of two of those projects: “The Last Resort,” a rom-com from “Mystic Pizza” director Donald Petrie, co-starring Daisy Ridley and Alden Ehrenreich; and “Godzilla x Kong: Supernova,” in which he has a supporting role and which is set to be released in March 2027.
We now know of another one, which might very well be the final film of Neill’s wonderful career. According to Deadline, Neill is in Wes Ball’s “The Legend of Zelda,” in an undisclosed role.
The film, starring Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, is set to hit theaters on May 7, 2027. The rest of the cast includes Uli Latukefu in the villainous role of Ganondorf and Dichen Lachman as Impa. Derek Connolly — who penned “Jurassic World” and “Detective Pikachu” — is writing the script.
Neill, the Kiwi actor known for his role as Dr. Alan Grant in the “Jurassic Park” films, died in early July due to pneumonia. His passing came as a real shock and was described as “sudden and unexpected,” as it came after the actor had become “cancer free” following a 2022 diagnosis of stage 3 blood cancer. He was 78.
The film had actually wrapped its six-month production in January 2026, and it’s been in post-production for the last eight months. Fincher is well known for taking his time in the editing room.
