Gaspar Noé’s Next Film to Star Cate Blanchett and Franz Rogowski

July 21, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

Fresh off the 2022 U.S. release of “Vortex,” one of the best movies of his career, French director Gaspar Noé had already previously hinted at what he might be doing next.

However, things seemed to have changed. If he had said his next film would be about pre-schoolers, he’s possibly changed his tune given today’s news.

Cate Blanchett and Franz Rogowski are set to star in Noé’s next film. The filmmaker was spotted (via The Film Stage) in Putignano, Italy where he’s location scouting for this mysterious new film.

No other details were given, but Blanchett and Rogowski leading a Noé film is music to my ears. What a wonderful duo to have lead your next film. Blanchett would probably be the biggest star Noé has ever teamed up with, although he did have Monica Bellucci, at the peak of her popularity, helming “Irreversible” in 2002.

Noé is known as the master provocateur behind such films as “Irreversible,” “Enter the Void” and “Climax”. In “Vortex,” he tackled an elderly couple and the final days before their deaths, it was his most “subdued” film, but that isn’t saying much given his provocative filmography.

Blanchett can next be seen in the recently Cannes-premiered “The New Boy” and next year’s Alfonso Cuaron directed Apple series “Disclaimer.” She also has “Borderlands” coming out next year, but I’m sure she’d rather us not talk about that one.

We’ll be keep a watchful eye out for this one. Of course, the actors strike is still happening and Blanchett is most definitely a union member, so hopefully it gets settled soon and she can start shooting this one in the near future.
