More casting on Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey.” With the already-reported Elliot Page, additionally joining the ensemble are Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin and Samantha Morton.

Written and directed by Drew Hancock, “Companion” nabbed $1.1M in Thursday previews. It’s now projected to earn $11M this weekend. That’s decent for a film that’s reported to have cost $10M.

This year’s jurors for the U.S. Dramatic Competition included directors Reinaldo Marcus Green (“King Richard”), and Celine Song (“Past Lives”). This jury certainly ended up making some controversial selections, especially for its top prize.

Leigh is officially re-teaming up with Bleecker Street as well as Cornerstone, STUDIOCANAL (UK) and Film4 for his next film, which is expected to begin shooting later this year. Bleecker Street released Leigh’s latest film, “Hard Truths.”

Focus Features is nearing a deal to remake Takashi Miike’s 1999 classic “Audition.” The film is being written & directed by Danish filmmaker Christian Tafdrup (“Speak No Evil”).

What we’re seeing here is the melting down of an Oscar campaign. I won’t lie, it’s been more entertaining to witness than half of this year’s best picture nominees.

Clint Bentley’s “Train Dreams,” a Malickian drama about a railroad worker who lives an isolated life, has been acquired by Netflix. I’m told the deal to buy the film was around $16M.

Spike Lee went on his Instagram to tout about how Martin Scorsese saw his upcoming film, “Highest 2 Lowest,” and “loved” it. As you’ll read below, he can’t seem to contain himself, and his post, filled caps locks and slang, is total gushing.

Another day, another remake. Miramax has decided to reboot, of all things, “The Faculty,” the mixed-reviewed 1998 sci-fi thriller directed by Robert Rodriguez (via Variety). Drew Hancock (“Companion”) will be writing the screenplay.

Apparently, Christopher Nolan is supposed to direct a smaller-scaled film next year. The film is titled “Die Early” and it’s supposed to star Robert Downey Jr. The description has the film dubbed as a “mind-bending, high-concept thriller.” I’ll believe it when I see it.

Netflix has announced its 2025 film slate, and we can expect new films from Noah Baumbach Kathryn Bigelow, Guillermo del Toro, Edward Berger, and Gareth Evans to come out this year.
