Eddie Redmayne to Star in Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Next Film, Set Up at Searchlight Pictures

February 19, 2026 Jordan Ruimy

Hirokazu Kore-eda is releasing two movies this year: “Sheep in the Box,” which has already been picked up by Neon for U.S. release, and “Look Back,” based on the manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto (“Chainsaw Man”).

Kore-eda has now seemingly set up his next film and is teaming up with Searchlight Pictures on an English-language project set to star Eddie Redmayne. Plot details are unknown at this time for the untitled feature, which will also be written by Kore-eda, with Jonathan King and Ash Sarohia joining Redmayne as producers.

Kore-eda has been working for three decades, building a body of acclaimed work that includes “After Life,” “Maborosi,” “Still Walking,” “Like Father, Like Son,” and “After the Storm.” In 2018, his “Shoplifters” won the Palme d’Or and went on to gross $72 million worldwide.

Meanwhile, Redmayne is an Oscar winner for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in “The Theory of Everything” and was nominated again for his performance in “The Danish Girl,” which he has since disowned. Redmayne’s other credits include “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” “Les Misérables,” “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” and “The Good Nurse.”
