With the news of Inde Navarrette passing on playing Charlene in Michael Mann’s “Heat 2,” we now have a twist to this story. The door may not be closed just yet for Navarrette to star in the film, according to Nexus Point News, as she “remains in consideration” for the much smaller role of Gabriella.
Furthermore, Eiza González is in consideration for the role of Elisa, while Odessa Young is being considered for the role of Charlene, previously played by Ashley Judd.
González has starred in her fair share of action movies, including “Baby Driver,” “Alita: Battle Angel,” “Ambulance,” and “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.” Meanwhile, Young is coming off her turn in “The Order” and “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere.”
At this point, the casting is still in flux, and none of the actresses’ roles have been officially confirmed.
“Heat 2” stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Chris Shiherlis, taking over the role originally played by Val Kilmer, and Christian Bale as Vincent Hanna, the iconic LAPD detective portrayed by Al Pacino in the 1995 film. Stephen Graham is expected to play Neil McCauley, the master thief originally played by Robert De Niro, while Adam Driver was in negotiations to portray Otis Wardell, one of the novel’s new central antagonists.
For those unfamiliar, “Heat 2,” based on Mann’s own novel, operates as both a prequel and a sequel. It spans decades and continents, following a young Neil McCauley and Chris Shiherlis while introducing Otis, the sadistic villain. Charlene is the biggest female role.
Amazon/MGM took over “Heat 2” after Warner Bros. found the $200M budget too pricey—the film is now said to cost around $170M.
González is in consideration for the role of Elisa, while Young is being considered for the role of Charlene,. Navarrette would be downgraded to a much smaller role as Gabriella.
