‘The Odyssey’ ($1.8M) Is Back at No. 1 at the Box Office, Dethroning ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ ($1.7M)

Watch out for “The Odyssey,” which, after a $1.8M Wednesday, is back at #1 at the domestic box office, dethroning “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which grossed $1.7M.

With kids back at school and ‘Odyssey’ IMAX screenings still sold out in many areas, it would not surprise me if Christopher Nolan’s film reclaims the top spot this weekend, in its eighth weekend of release.

“The Odyssey” wouldn’t just be beating any film — ‘Brand New Day,’ which will hit $900M domestic on Friday, not to mention $2.34 billion globally, is one of the most successful movies of all time. ‘Odyssey’ is currently at $570M domestic, $1.56 billion worldwide.

This Friday’s wide releases are not expected to surpass either ‘Odyssey’ or ‘Brand New Day.’ Adam Wingard’s “Onslaught” is eyeing a $7.7M weekend, and “Fall 2: Deadpoint” is aiming for under $10M.
