‘The Odyssey’ Hits VOD, 4k Blu-Ray Release on November 17 — Exactly 120 Days After Theatrical Release

August 21, 2026 Jordan Ruimy

Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” may have already revealed when it’s coming home, and honestly, the timing makes perfect sense.

Blu-ray.com is now listing November 17, 2026, as the Blu-ray and digital release date, exactly four months — 120 days — after the film opened in theaters on July 17. The listing includes a two-disc Blu-ray set and a three-disc 4K edition, although the special features remain a mystery.

That 120-day theatrical exclusive is a big deal in the post-COVID era, as most studios these days seem to prefer a 30-to-45-day exclusive window. In fact, some major releases have arrived on digital platforms even sooner.

Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” followed a similar four-month window, landing on digital and physical media at the same time. Universal also waited until roughly a month before that release to make the announcement official, so I wouldn’t expect confirmation for “The Odyssey” until sometime in October.

And considering how massive this movie has become, Universal would be smart to give it a proper home-video push. “The Odyssey” has now made around $1.35 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever. That’s an absurd result for a three-hour-plus Homer adaptation, even by Nolan standards.

The Oscars are obviously the next big story. I’d expect “The Odyssey” to be all over the nominations, particularly in the technical categories, and Nolan himself could be back in the Best Director conversation. After the response this movie has received, it would be pretty shocking if it doesn’t become one of the major players of Oscar season.

Since 2020, when the pandemic shuttered cinemas for months, studios have embraced shorter theatrical windows and increasingly rushed movies to digital. While that strategy can make financial sense, it has also contributed to the idea that audiences can simply wait a few weeks and watch a movie at home. That risks devaluing the theatrical experience. It’s refreshing to see Nolan go against the grain here — and we can probably expect the same from “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”
