Netflix has decided to punt Greg Kwedar’s “Saturn Return,” a Chicago-set romance starring Charles Melton, Rachel Brosnahan, and Will Poulter, to an undisclosed 2027 date.
Many thought this one might show up this awards season, especially given the recent pedigree of Kwedar and his writing partner Clint Bentley. Alas, Netflix believes this film, which wrapped production in October 2025, is a better fit for next year.
“Saturn Return” spans a decade, charting the leap from the intoxicating optimism of college love to the bruising compromises of adulthood — the kind of premise that either soars or sinks into melodrama.
Kwedar and Bentley create character-focused stories. They often write together but take turns directing: “Jockey” (2021) and “Train Dreams” (2025) were directed by Bentley and co-written with Kwedar. “Sing Sing” (2023) was directed by Kwedar and co-written with Bentley.
This is a significant update for a project that has been stuck in development for years, and comes roughly a year after Brolin said “Sicario 3” was a maybe.
