Jordan Peele’s Next Film Finally Has a Script—But Release Date and Casting Isn’t Expected for “A Few Months”

June 19, 2026 Jordan Ruimy

There’s finally some movement in regard to Jordan Peele’s much-delayed next film, once dated for 2024, which has been hopping from one script to the next, one idea tossed out for another. Over the last four years, Peele has not quite found the right groove to follow up 2022’s “Nope.”

Peele’s next film is currently not scheduled over at Universal Pictures, which means it will likely be six or seven years between releases for him.

Now, for the good news. According to Puck’s Matt Belloni, Peele has finally settled on a script, though a release date or casting announcement isn’t expected for “a few months.” That’s arguably the most positive update we’ve gotten about Peele’s next film in years.

If you remember, Peele reportedly got cold feet and scrapped the script he was supposed to shoot in late 2023. Then in 2024 and 2025, a second and third script were developed and also abandoned, as whispers suggested the filmmaker was back at square one, working up yet another idea.

Will the fourth time be the charm?

Peele recently had his multi-film deal at Universal pared down, though it doesn’t expire until 2030. Meanwhile, his Monkeypaw Productions banner has no other greenlit films after the sports horror “Him” flopped last year.

Peele has directed three films in the last ten years: “Get Out,” “Us,” and “Nope.” This next project is shaping up to be his biggest yet, with a budget reportedly in the $90M range.
