Matt Reeves has officially shared a first look at “The Batman: Part II,” confirming that production is now ramping up on the sequel.
The images, posted by Reeves, show the Batmobile navigating snow-covered streets, effectively revealing that the film will have a winter setting. The update also comes alongside confirmation that camera tests are underway and filming is expected to begin on May 29 in the UK.
Reeves has been working on the script for The Batman sequel since late 2022. It was initially expected to begin shooting in 2024, then in 2025, and now it appears that production will begin at the end of the month.
Robert Pattinson is set to return as Bruce Wayne/Batman, alongside a mix of returning cast members and new additions. Jeffrey Wright, Colin Farrell, and Andy Serkis are all expected back, while new reports indicate Sebastian Stan may play Harvey Dent, with Charles Dance as his father Christopher Dent and Scarlett Johansson as Gilda Dent. Barry Keoghan is also rumored to return as the Joker.
Reeves has described the sequel as a “very different type of Batman movie,” suggesting a tonal or structural shift from the first installment. He’s also changed cinematographers — going from the original’s Greig Fraser to now Erik Messerschmidt.
“The Batman: Part II,” which Reeves co-with Mattson Tomlin, is rumored to follow an uneasy alliance between Harvey Dent, Commissioner James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright), and Batman/Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson) as they work to dismantle a serial killer and the city’s entrenched criminal organizations.
“The Batman: Part II” is currently scheduled for release on October 1, 2027.
