That “Spring Breakers” sequel keeps sounding worse by the day.
None other than Bella Thorne has confirmed that not only is she starring in the Korine-less sequel, but she is also directing “Spring Breakers 2.” Yes, Bella Thorne, the former Disney star, who won a Pornhub directing award for “Her & Him,” revealed the news on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast:
The producers watched ‘Color Your Hurt,’ which is the movie that I just wrapped, an early cut of it. And they asked me to write something to see if they would like it. And they loved it! And now I’m writing and directing ‘Spring Breakers 2.’
The sequel was announced in May 2025 and also includes “Stranger Things” breakout Grace Van Dien, Ariel Martin (“Zombies 2”) and True Whitaker (“I Love L.A.”). At the time, Matthew Bright (“Freeway”) was supposed to direct, but now it’s Thorne? What?
Thorne says her sequel will be very different from the original, believing that the 2012 film was released at “such an exploitative time and everyone was going through it,” and that “this time, things are different,” Thorne said. “They are crazy. There’s a lot of craziness, there’s a lot of litness. There is so much litness in this movie.”
Harmony Korine is not involved and has previously said he has “no interest” and that “there was no need for a sequel.”

The sequel follows a group of rebellious girls on a chaotic spring break road trip that spirals into violence — a premise that sounds like it’s trying to echo the dangerous allure of the original without understanding why it worked in the first place.
“Spring Breakers,” a candy-colored fever dream, thrived on Korine’s singular voice — a satirical, trash-glam lens on American consumerism and self-destruction. James Franco’s Alien cannot be replicated, nor can the film’s candy-colored aesthetic, which became endlessly mimicked. It was lightning in a bottle.
We now have seven new images from Brad Bird’s “Ray Gunn.” The film still doesn’t have a trailer, let alone a teaser, so we’ll take what we can get.
