I bow down to the comedy church of Eric André. Anything this guy does, I’ll show up for, especially when it’s unscripted, such as his underrated, and gut-bustingly hilarious, Netflix comedy “Bad Trip.”
That said, the trailer for “Little Brother,” which has Andre co-starring with John Cena, might be one of the worst I’ve seen this year. What is it about Netflx that brings out the absolute worst in actors and directors?
Also, why is Matt Spicer, who directed the highly underrated indie “Ingrid Goes West,” part of the film? This is actually Spicer’s first effort since ‘Ingrid,’ which was released in 2017. I imagine he couldn't get any of his passion projects going, and just said f*ck it, I’ll make a Netflix movie.
In “Little Brother,” Cena stars as a renowned real estate agent whose perfectly controlled life is thrown into chaos when his quirky younger brother, played by André, suddenly returns. According to Netflix’s official synopsis, the film centers on their unexpected reunion, with Michelle Monaghan, Sherry Cola, Christopher Meloni, Ego Nwodim, and Caleb Hearon rounding out the cast.
Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel, who helmed “The D-Train,” wrote the script, with David Bernad producing alongside Ruben Fleischer.
As for André, his last few films have not been mirrors of his talent: “Balls Up,” “Happy Gilmore 2,” and he has “Street Fighter” coming out this year — maybe that’ll break the spell; he’s supposed to play Don Sauvage, the eccentric announcer of the World Warrior Tournament.
“Little Brother” premieres on Netflix June 26. Watch the trailer below.
