Yesterday, James Franco mentioned how he was cast in an upcoming “blockbuster” set for a 2027 release, but refused to reveal what it was. We now have the answer.
According to Variety, James Franco has joined the ensemble cast of “John Rambo.” That’s seemingly the “blockbuster” he was referring to. He will play the villain. The cast already includes Noah Centineo as Rambo and David Harbour as Rambo’s commanding officer, Major Trautman.
The film is directed by Jalmari Helander (“Sisu”) and serves as an origin story for the franchise, taking place before 1982’s “First Blood.” Sylvester Stallone is not involved. “John Rambo” has wrapped production in Thailand.
Since the 2018 #MeToo allegations, Franco has appeared in only three low-budget indie films: “Future World,” “Kin,” and “The Pretenders.” However, he has since branched out to Europe, starring last year in the French film “Le Prix de l’argent” and the Italian film “Hey Joe,” neither of which was released in the U.S. “John Rambo” will be his first major studio film in more than eight years.
