The Thursday numbers are slowly rolling in, and it does look as though David Robert Mitchell’s “End of Oak Street” will have $2.5M+ in Thursday previews, which is fine, but not worthy of its $80M budget. The weekend is looking at around $19M domestic and $40M worldwide.
Warner Bros. is hoping that word of mouth will spread when it comes to this PG-13 dinosaur movie, which needs a $200M worldwide tally to break even, but a 72% user rating on Rotten Tomatoes is worrisome. So is that 6.6/10 rating on IMDb. The film is short and sweet, at 95 minutes — it comes and goes at the flick of a switch.
As for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” it continues to roll along with an $11.5M Thursday, above expectations; some predicted around $9M, and it should add $65M to its domestic tally this weekend, which means it’ll hit the $800M domestic mark by Tuesday. The $2 billion worldwide mark will be hit on Saturday or Sunday.
As for the sex-less movie about sex, “One Night Only,” it’s supposed to plummet 60% this weekend, having only earned around $500K on Thursday. It’s looking at $3M this weekend, upping its domestic total to $10M by Sunday night. The budget was $20M, which would mean probably $45M is the break-even point. Not good. There was a ton of marketing for this film, but they were never fully able to sell it to its target audience.
It’s hard to believe, but Coppola’s “Marie Antoinette” was met with boos at its Cannes premiere in May 2006. The film also received mixed reviews from critics and remains “rotten” on Rotten Tomatoes.
