A brief update on M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Remain,’ which hits theaters in February 2027. The filmmaker is reuniting with one of his key early collaborators, and it’s definitely something to look forward to.
Composer James Newton Howard will be scoring “Remain” — he hasn’t collaborated with Shyamalan in over 13 years. Their previous partnership resulted in films such as “The Sixth Sense,” “Unbreakable,” “Signs,” and “The Village.”
Much of the impact of Shyamalan’s earlier films may have been shaped by his collaboration with Howard, which had scores that often elevated even flawed films, and helped define Shyamalan’s style at his peak. Since their partnership ended over a decade ago, Shyamalan’s films have lacked that same musical lift.
“Remain” stars Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor. Shyamalan, who is coming off 2024’s “Trap,” will be working with a new DP on this one, as Adolpho Veloso—who shot the acclaimed “Train Dreams”—is billed as the cinematographer.
