Hulu’s reboot of The X-Files from Ryan Coogler has now cast Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi, and Ben Foster in supporting—or “guest”—roles. That’s a strong amount of talent, including one very recent Oscar winner.
They join previously announced leads Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler, who will portray two highly decorated yet very different FBI agents. The pair form an unlikely partnership when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division focused on cases involving unexplained phenomena.
From the latest casting grids, it sounds like the story could revolve around an investigation connected to Indigenous communities, with characters including a Bureau of Indian Affairs officer, a former biker trying to leave gang life behind, and a missing woman tied to a young girl who may be at the center of the mystery.
The pilot episode, which will be directed by Coogler, is set to film this month in Vancouver—the same city where the original series shot its early seasons. No word yet on when the rest of the season will be shot, but odds are it will also be this summer.
The series was greenlit at Hulu. Jennifer Yale (“The Copenhagen Test”) is the showrunner. No word yet on when the show will premiere, but a 2028 release seems very likely.
Coogler, who is coming off the immense, career-defining success of “Sinners,” has stated that after he finishes “The X-Files,” he plans to shoot “Black Panther 3,” which is rumored to have a summer 2028 release date, and set to be his sixth feature after “Fruitvale Station,” “Creed,” “Black Panther,” ‘Wakanda Forever,’ and “Sinners.”
