Apparently, Sydney Sweeney was supposed to be in “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” in a cameo role playing herself, but her scene(s) has been cut.
According to EW, she appeared in a small scene playing herself as one of Emily Charlton’s (Emily Blunt) celebrity clients during a sequence that helps reintroduce Emily’s character at Dior. The moment was intended to add a bit of “star power” early in the film.
However, the filmmakers ultimately removed it during editing. The decision was described as a “creative decision,” with sources saying the scene simply didn’t fit the structure or flow of the film. Don’t worry—reports conclude that they still “appreciated” her participation.
This is being framed as a fairly common editing choice in a large ensemble film, and it may well be exactly that. The film already features returning stars like Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, along with a cameo from Lady Gaga—whose scene, of course, “perfectly flowed” in the edit.
Of course, excuse the folks out there—and there are many who don’t believe the explanation for a second. “Devil Wears Prada 2” was shot in June 2025; just a few months later, in August, Sweeney’s public image became increasingly complicated due to a cluster of overlapping controversies. The biggest flashpoint was the backlash around her American Eagle “Great Jeans / Great Genes” ad campaign, which critics interpreted as racially or politically loaded, and which was quickly followed by the public attention to her 2024 Republican voter registration.
Of course, Sweeney is still a bankable star — “The Housemaid” has now surpassed the $400M mark at the box office — but she clearly has her share of detractors at the moment as well.
