So this next film by The Daniels, Scheinert and Kwan, of “EEAAO” fame, is looking exactly like we expected it to be.
The rumors had the film, currently titled “Thasnagar,” reportedly inspired by “The Power Rangers” and superhero movies, jumping between the 1980s and the present day while tackling time travel and climate change.
Naturally, that’s exactly what the first set photos are hinting at — the actor was spotted Wednesday on the set of the sci-fi movie in Los Angeles, where he donned a very colorful superhero costume and was accompanied by what seemed to be a “Power Rangers”-looking crew. Colorful stuff: bright red jumpsuits, gloves, and futuristic headgear.
The project is being kept a mystery, and it’s actually surprising to see pictures leak this quickly into production. However, rumors abound: The story apparently centers on a group of young characters decked out in color-coded outfits who join forces to take on kaiju, with Damon playing a superhero-like figure who helps guide them. His AI sidekick, meanwhile, is played by Oh.
To be clear, the film is an entirely original property with no official ties to “Power Rangers,” but the influence is there. The Daniels have been pitching the movie as “The Breakfast Club” meets “Inception” meets an anime film meets an episode of “The John Oliver Show.”
Damon is joined by Charles Melton and Sandra Oh in the cast. The rest of the ensemble includes Michael Gandolfini and PinkPantheress, alongside the film’s five leads: Sean Kaufman, Silvia Dionicio, Jackson Kelly, Kerrice Brooks, and Thalia Dudek.
Filming is expected to take place at several Los Angeles-area locations, including a college campus transformed into a movie set.
The Daniels have been developing this $150M+ project for years following the success of “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Originally dated for June 12, 2026, this new project quietly vanished from Universal’s schedule last year, but was then given a November 19, 2027 release date.
