UPDATE: Production has begun on Mike Flanagan’s “The Exorcist” reboot. This is turning into quite the ensemble too: John Leguizamo has joined production — he is rumored to be playing an antagonistic role.
The reboot now stars Scarlett Johansson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Diane Lane, Noah Jupe, Laurence Fishburne, Sasha Calle and Leguizamo.
UPDATE: Another Oscar nominee — that now makes four of them — has joined Mike Flanagan’s ‘Exorcist’ reboot: Laurence Fisburne. His credits include “Apocalypse Now,” “The Matrix,” “Mystic River,” “Deep Cover,” “Boyz n the Hood,” “King of New York,” and “What’s Love Gotta Do With It.”
Additionally, sources also indicate that Ejiofor will take on the role of an ex-con turned priest, while Johansson is set to play Jupe’s mother. No word yet on who Fishburne might play, but rumor is it might be a cop.
EARLIER: Oscar nominees Chiwetel Ejiofor and Diane Lane have joined the cast of Mike Flanagan’s “The Exorcist,” which is set for release on March 12, 2027.
Ejiofor joins a previously announced cast that already includes Scarlett Johansson and Jacobi Jupe. Lane’s casting, meanwhile, was announced a week ago.
Flanagan’s reboot of the 1973 classic will not be a sequel to 2023’s “The Exorcist: Believer.” In fact, the project is rumored to be titled “The Exorcist: Martyr,” though Blumhouse and Universal have declined to comment on the title.
The film marks Flanagan’s ninth feature as a director. His previous credits include “Oculus” (2013), “Hush” (2016), “Gerald’s Game” (2017), and “Doctor Sleep” (2019). It also reunites him with Ejiofor for the second time, following their collaboration on last year’s “The Life of Chuck.”
