Jonathan Majors continues to attempt a comeback. Since his fallout in 2023, Majors was slated to star in Martin Villeneuve’s “Merciless,” but that film appears to be stuck in development hell. So what else does he have in the works? One might have thought he could follow the Armie Hammer route and star in a Uwe Boll film, but Majors has taken a different direction—albeit one that is likely to raise some eyebrows.
Turns out, Majors is currently shooting his first movie in four years, with cameras rolling this week in South Carolina on an untitled action film being produced by Ben Shapiro’s The Daily Wire. Kyle Rankin (“Run Hide Fight”) is directing from his own screenplay.
What is known is that the story draws inspiration from ’80s and ’90s action films like “Red Dawn” and “Toy Soldiers,” both of which—coincidentally, or not—centered on groups of teenage boys uniting to fight off invading forces.
The Daily Wire has actively embraced opportunities to revive the careers of actors who faced public backlash or cancellation. The conservative media company has also offered leading film roles to Armie Hammer, Gina Carano, Vincent Gallo and Roseanne Barr. Their most successful theatrical release so far has been Matt Walsh’s documentary “Am I Racist?”—a mockumentary that satirizes DEI—which earned $12M domestically.
Majors’s once-promising career was derailed in 2023 after he was convicted of reckless assault and harassment in December of that year. He was sentenced in April to a 52-week, in-person domestic violence intervention program. The case, which received extensive media coverage for months, involved an altercation Majors had with his girlfriend in March 2023.
At the time, Majors was expected to reprise his role as Kang in the next Avengers film, but he was removed from the role in February 2024. As it stands, his most recent screen credits remain 2022’s Disney+ series “Loki,” in which he reprised his role as Kang the Conqueror, and “Magazine Dreams,” which premiered at Sundance 2023.
A comeback is now officially underway with this Daily Wire movie, but Hollywood has yet to offer Majors a role in a major studio project. Will it ever happen? Michael B. Jordan has hinted that Majors could return for the next “Creed” film—we’ll have to wait and see if that actually occurs.
