‘The Batman Part II’ Pauses Production as Matt Reeves Steps Away for Personal Reasons

October 5, 2026 Jordan Ruimy

Not the news anyone wanted, but sadly not a total shock to those who've followed this sequel's long road. Production on "The Batman Part II" has been paused so that Matt Reeves can deal with a personal situation.

The studio confirmed it Monday: "Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter. Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon."

Cameras had been rolling in London since May. The film is dated for February 18, 2028, and sources say it's too early to know whether the stoppage will push that.

Regular readers know I've been writing about this for well over a year. Back in 2025, I reported that Reeves was going through something serious in his private life, and that it was the main reason the sequel kept slipping. Quite honestly, if people knew what Reeves was dealing with, they'd leave him alone.

I'm not going to speculate on what this is. It's a family matter, and it will stay private unless Reeves decides otherwise. What he's dealing with has been well known in the industry. It's serious, and it has been ongoing since he began writing the screenplay for “The Batman” sequel three years ago, which is why the film has taken so long to reach production.

The cast for “The Batman: Part II” includes returning stars Robert Pattinson, Andy Serkis, Barry Keoghan, Jeffrey Wright and Colin Farrell, with Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry, Charles Dance, Jayme Lawson, Gil Perez-Abraham and Sebastian Koch joining the film.

Wishing Reeves and his family the best. The movie can wait.
