Here's a nugget I don't think has been reported anywhere. During the Q&A for his new documentary "Joy of Joys" at the New York Film Festival, Jonathan Glazer let slip that he was in the middle of writing his next film when he got pulled into the doc.
That's all he said, but Glazer is notoriously tight-lipped and rarely offers updates, so even a passing remark like this counts as news. It confirms that development on his next project is underway.
The timeline is telling, too. "Joy of Joys" was shot in November 2025, during the Abbey Road sessions for War Child's "HELP(2)" charity album. That means Glazer was already deep into writing by late last year.
It also tracks with what he said last summer at Bologna's Il Cinema Ritrovato festival, where he told the audience a new idea was already taking shape.
"I have something in my head that I will soon translate into a movie," he said, adding that he'd start writing soon. Now we know he did.
Even better, Glazer said he wasn't planning another 10-year sabbatical, which has been his modus operandi. He's directed just four features in 25 years: "Sexy Beast" (2000), "Birth" (2004), "Under the Skin" (2013) and "The Zone of Interest" (2023). The last one won the Grand Prix at Cannes and went on to win two Oscars, including Best International Feature.
As for what the new film is, don't hold your breath. If his track record is any indication, we won't know what Glazer has been quietly building until it's already on screen.
