Back in June, there was a bidding war for playwright-writer-director Sophie Fleur de Bruijn's "One Month Mark," a rom-com based on her own spec script. Apple Original Films ultimately landed the project, with Jennifer Lawrence attached to star and produce.
Now, sources tell Deadline that Gene Stupnitsky, who directed Lawrence in "No Hard Feelings," is in final negotiations to direct "One Month Mark." The pair had been looking for another project together since that R-rated comedy, which grossed $87 million worldwide, and it seems they've found it. Stupnitsky is also known for directing "Good Boys" (2019). He co-created the Emmy-nominated series "Jury Duty" and co-wrote comedy features including "Bad Teacher."
Per the synopsis, "One Month Mark" follows two people: "She has never made it past a month in a relationship; he has never gone longer than a month without one." Whether the film will go straight to streaming remains to be seen, though Apple has increasingly taken that route with its recent releases.
Lawrence, an Oscar winner, recently wrapped Martin Scorsese's "What Happens at Night." Her recent film credits include "Don't Look Up" (2021), "Causeway" (2022), "No Hard Feelings" (2023) and "Die My Love" (2025). She is also expected to make a cameo in the upcoming "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping."
