Back in May, I reported that Jordan Peele had gone back to square one with his next feature, scrapping not one but two scripts in development.
Earlier this week, Universal quietly confirmed what many suspected — Peele’s fourth film, once set for October 23, 2026, has now been pulled from the release calendar and sits undated.
THR is now backing up what I’ve been hearing, but the situation seems even more dire: Peele currently has no working script. He hasn’t written a thing. Does he even have an idea? Who knows.
This isn’t the first time the timeline has shifted. At one point, Peele was eyeing December 25, 2024 for a release before abandoning that project for something new. Even that second idea appears to have been tossed aside, with the director brainstorming yet another concept as recently as this summer.
Since 2022’s “Nope” — a film that split audiences but solidified Peele’s status as a singular genre voice — nothing has stuck. The weight of following up three ambitious originals seems to be looming large.
A few months ago, one insider went so far as to tell me that Peele didn’t even know what his next movie was yet. Not unusual for a filmmaker of his stature, but it does raise doubts about whether 2027 will even be an option at this point.
