David Robert Mitchell’s ‘Flowervale Street’ is a Time-Travel Dinosaur Movie

September 19, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

Last year, Warner Bros. pushed David Robert Mitchell’s “Flowervale Street” from its original May 2025 release to March 13, 2026. They finally settled on August 14, 2026.

The film stars Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway, and while no official reason was given for the delay, it appears to have been more strategic than worrisome. At the time, the version that had test screened was reportedly “90% completed” and well-liked by those who saw it.

Now, I finally have some plot details to share. Until recently, all that was known was that it’s an “‘80s-set thrill ride,” shot on “IMAX,” with a rumored dinosaur element and a budget around $85M. Confirmed: there are dinosaurs. Lots of them.

McGregor and Hathaway play parents on Flowervale Street who begin noticing subtle changes in their neighborhood. When a violent thunderstorm hits, they—and their children and neighbors—wake up to find themselves “transported back in time to the prehistoric era,” surrounded by dinosaurs and other wild creatures.

The rest of the film revolves around tense survival scenarios, as the families struggle to find their way back home. Early impressions liken it to a Spielbergian adventure: “PG-13 danger meets ‘E.T.’ style wonder, with a ‘Jurassic Park’ level of thrills. Hathaway is the standout, having loads of fun with the part she’s playing.

Mitchell, whose last film was “Under the Silver Lake” (2018), is no stranger to delayed releases. That Cannes competition premiere polarized critics, and A24 postponed its theatrical release multiple times before it quietly opened nearly a year later, grossing under $50,000 domestically. Despite the low box office, “Under the Silver Lake” has maintained a devoted cult following, including an active subreddit still dissecting its mysteries nearly six years later.

In the meantime, Mitchell is also slated to helm the “It Follows” sequel, “They Follow,” with Maika Monroe returning as the lead. After an eight year absence, he might, maybe, have two films released next year.
