Production may have technically wrapped on Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Doomsday,” but the script and cast are still a work in progress — at least that’s what the crew jackets handed out on set say.
Several team members confirmed principal photography has concluded, with the Russo brothers calling it a wrap. A nice milestone, even if, in typical Marvel fashion, it doesn’t mean the movie’s anywhere close to done.
Because, of course, the second phase of filming kicks off in January 2026, with secrecy expected to follow. Expect reshoots, rewrites, maybe even a reshuffled cast list, since Marvel has been locking pieces of this puzzle together right up until the very last second.
None of this should shock anyone—Marvel productions are infamous for being rewritten mid-shoot and patched together in post. And with half of Hollywood’s A-list allegedly involved, scheduling is a nightmare, so expect plenty of scenes to get reshuffled or rewritten for round two.
The official synopsis has Doctor Doom entering the MCU, wielding science, sorcery, and Robert Downey Jr.’s return to Marvel — but this time as Doom himself. The rest of the announced ensemble is Marvel’s biggest collection of capes and contracts to date, stretching from Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man to Ian McKellen’s Magneto to Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards.
Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron are credited on the screenplay, though given Marvel’s track record, expect plenty of “polish” between now and December 2026. The script technically isn’t locked. Neither is the cast. Newton Thomas Sigel is handling cinematography.
So yes, Avengers: Doomsday is “done,” until it isn’t. With Marvel, the cameras never really stop rolling, the scripts never really lock, and the cast list never really feels final. But hey, at least the jackets look nice.
“Avengers: Doomsday” hits theaters and IMAX on December 18, 2026.
