Snoop Dogg has clarified recent comments he made about Pixar’s Lightyear after severe backlash formed online. If you remember, Snoop told the It’s Giving podcast that he was caught off guard while watching “Lightyear” with his grandson.
In the movie, two female characters share a kiss, which led to his grandson asking questions Snoop said he “didn’t have an answer for.”
It f—ed me up. I’m scared to go to the movies now… These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.
Snoop has inevitably decided to respond in the comments of a Hollywood Unlocked post, and he seems very apologetic about the storm he created:
I was just caught off guard and had no answer for my grandsons. All my gay friends [know] what’s up, they been calling me with love. My bad for not knowing the answers for a 6-yr-old. Teach me how to learn. I’m not perfect.
“Lightyear,” of course, was thrust into the culture wars when it opened: it featured Pixar’s first same-sex kiss and one of Disney’s most prominent LGBTQ characters, a move that sparked internal debate at the studio and pushback in some markets.
Last year, IGN reported on Pixar’s ‘Lightyear’ flop, noting that Disney brass largely blamed the same-sex kiss — a moment that got the film banned across much of the Muslim world and prompted China to demand its removal.
Something tells me Snoop won’t be giving “Lightyear” a rewatch any time soon.
