Snoop Dogg says the infamous same sex kiss scene in Pixar’s “Lightyear” left him rattled to his core.
Appearing on the “It’s Giving” podcast, the rapper admitted he’s now “scared” to take his grandkids to the movies after the 2022 film unexpectedly forced him into a conversation about same-sex parenting.
Snoop recalled bringing his grandson to see the Toy Story spinoff, only to be blindsided during a montage showing two mothers raising a child. His grandson immediately piped up with questions: “Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!”
I didn’t come in for this shit. I just came to watch the goddamn movie. It f**ked me up. I’m like, scared to go to the movies. Y’all throwing me in the middle of shit that I don’t have an answer for.
“Lightyear,” of course, was thrust into the culture wars when it opened: it featured Pixar’s first same-sex kiss and one of Disney’s most prominent LGBTQ characters, a move that sparked internal debate at the studio and pushback in some markets.
Last year, IGN reported on Pixar’s ‘Lightyear’ flop, noting that Disney brass largely blamed the same-sex kiss — a moment that got the film banned across much of the Muslim world and prompted China to demand its removal.
Adding gay content to ‘Lightyear’ came with consequences Disney couldn’t ignore. What began as conservative pushback soon reached the national stage, with lawmakers openly sparring over the film’s kiss.”
But for Snoop? The surprise left him rethinking movie night with the kids.
