After a long stretch of silence and mounting speculation, there’s finally very positive movement on “The Batman Part II.”
For months now, chatter from trades and online circles has circled the project like vultures — delays, and rumors of cancellation. The sequel, once slated for a 2026 release, is now slated for October 1, 2027.
The biggest question had always been: what’s going on with the script? DC Studios co-head James Gunn previously teased that a draft was expected by June, and now it looks like Reeves delivered, just under the wire.
Reeves has confirmed via his social media, that the screenplay is, at long last, finished. Mattson Tomlin, who quietly contributed rewrites to the 2022 film, is now receiving official credit this time around, joining Reeves on scripting duties for Part II.
With the script turned in, the timeline is finally starting to take shape. Production is being eyed for an early 2026 start, giving the film roughly two years of runway before its eventual theatrical release.
Naturally, story details are being kept under wraps. Robert Pattinson is locked in to return, and much of the original ensemble is expected to be back in the mix: Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell. Barry Keoghan, whose brief Joker cameo sparked countless theories, is widely rumored to have a larger role this time — though nothing has been made official.
Reeves no doubt remains committed to his noir-heavy, psychological approach to the character, promising a continuation of the tone and texture that defined the first film. With the script now complete and the wheels finally starting to turn, casting announcements should be the next step, assuming the draft gets the green light from Gunn and company.
