Guy Ritchie’s ‘In the Grey’ is Now Finished — Black Bear Preps 2026 Release Without Reshoots

December 2, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

A few weeks ago, it was revealed that Guy Ritchie’s much-delayed “In the Grey” had been quietly dropped by Lionsgate, which left production company Black Bear wondering if they should just self-distribute the film, which at the time was still in need of reshoots.

Turns out those reshoots might not be happening, and Black Bear could very well be rolling out the film via its recently created distribution arm.

You see, “In the Grey” has just been given a 16+ rating in Germany, with a runtime of 100 minutes — which means the film has wrapped post-production. They’re just going to release the film as is. Expect an MPA rating to come out very soon. No release date has been announced, but it’s clearly a 2026 film now.

“In the Grey,” starring Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Eiza González, wrapped principal photography back in summer 2023 after a two-month shoot under a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement. Lionsgate had even circled January 17, 2025, as its theatrical release date. Then, suddenly, in November 2024, the studio pulled the movie from its release calendar.

The official word from Lionsgate was that “In the Grey” wasn’t finished, with reshoots delayed for months due to scheduling conflicts. Then everything went quiet. One source says the real issue was simply timing — everyone’s calendars were out of sync, delays piled up, and the whole thing became a mess.

“In the Grey” follows two extraction specialists who are tasked with devising a route of escape for a high-level female negotiator. The logline says the story involves “a group who operates in the middle of criminality and the law.”

Meanwhile, Ritchie’s been busy. He released “Fountain of Youth” on Apple TV+, wrapped “Wife & Dog,” exited “Road House 2,” and jumped to a “Layer Cake” sequel with Jason Statham shooting in January. He’s made four films and two TV shows in the last three years.
