David Lowery and A24’s “Mother Mary” has finally wrapped production. It started filming in May 2023! Last month I was told by A24 that production had been broken up throughout these last 14 months due to Lowery’s need to film “specific scenes and venues”.
Anne Hathaway, Michaela Coel, Hunter Schafer and FKA twigs star in “Mother Mary” which is being described as a pop musical. The film is described as an “epic melodrama” following a fictional musician (Hathaway) and her relationship with an iconic fashion designer (Coel). We don’t know much else.
Lowery is very savvy at juggling his arthouse passion projects (“A Ghost Story,” “Ain’t Them Bodies A Saint,” “The Green Knight”) with high-priced Disney movies (“Pete’s Dragon,” “Pan and Wendy”). This latest project sounds very ambitious.
