The 119 Most Anticipated Films of 2025 [Updated]

January 2, 2025 Jordan Ruimy

UPDATE: Added films from Greg Araki, Jonah Hill, Anton Corbijn, Boots Riley, Ira Sachs, Gore Verbinski, and more.

Can we call 2024 a “weak” year for movies? That’s what you’ll be reading a lot about in upcoming year-end think pieces, and maybe that’s a fair assessment, but I will say that there have still been plenty of great films released this year, so much so that it’s becoming a real pain to narrow down my 2024 ten best list (which I’ll hopefully be publishing during the first week of December).

Yes, the strikes are over. The Pandemic is long gone. Productions are in full swing, and there’s an innumerable amount of talented filmmaker that have shot, or are just about to shoot, their next films, with an eye towards 2025 release.

Since January, I’ve been tracking films for this anticipated 2025 list. I do this every year, and given the modus operandi of this site, the focus is on the director. If an interesting filmmaker has a new film coming up then it’s on the list.

I’ll continue to update this post throughout November/December, and if there’s stuff missing, which I’m sure there is, then please mention it in the comments section below. I currently have 93 films listed.
