RUMOR: Sam Raimi is Developing ‘Spider-Man 4’

July 24, 2023 Jordan Ruimy

No offense to ‘Across the Spider-Verse,’ which I find to be a great movie, but, for the longest time, Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man 2” was known as not only the best Spidey movie ever made, but also one of the greatest comic book movies of all-time. In my world it still is.

Thomas Haden Church, who appeared as Character Flint Marko in two Spider-Man films, those include Raimi's “Spider-Man 3” and Marvel Studios' “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” has kickstarted Raimi/Spider-Man rumors due to comments he made in a recent interview.

Church told ComicBook.com that he'd love to appear in Raimi’s fourth ‘Spider-Man’ movie, which, he claims, via rumors, is in development.

There's always been some kind of…I've heard rumors…that Sam Raimi is going to do another [Spider-Man movie] with Tobey [Maguire] and if that happens, I would probably campaign to maybe at least do a cameo

Raimi’s fourth Spider-Man project came very close to being made in the late aughts, with Sony even pushing it into pre-production mode. Raimi ended up leaving the project and then those Marc Webb and Andrew Garfield movies were made soon after.

Not too long ago, Raimi had confirmed that he would love to return to make “Spider-Man 4” with Tobey Maguire.

I've come to realize after making Doctor Strange that anything is possible, really anything in the Marvel universe, any team-ups. I love Tobey. I love Kirsten Dunst. I think all things are possible. I don't really have a story or a plan. I don't know if Marvel would be interested in that right now. I don't know what their thoughts are about that. I haven't really pursued that. But it sounds beautiful. Even if it wasn't a Spider-Man movie, I'd love to work with Tobey again, in a different role.

If you remember, Raimi had some unfilmed ideas for his fourth “Spider-Man” movie, but that project never happened because, well, “Spider-Man 3” turned everybody off, including Raimi.

I l would be way more excited about a Raimi/Spider-Man movie than any of the upcoming Tom Holland ones. At least Raimi, much like Tim Burton did with his ‘Batman’ movies, brought in a unique voice to the superhero genre.
