Concerning news this morning regarding one of the more highly anticipated Cannes 2022 titles.
Park Chan-wook’s ‘Decision to Leave’ has been bought by MUBI. Yes, the film many were already declaring as the “Palme Chan-wook” has been bought by the globally curated film streaming platform.
This is by far the biggest title acquisition in MUBI’s short history, but it is quite concerning that none of the big kahunas like Sony Pictures Classic or Amazon went for Park’s film. You would think the newest film by the director of “OldBoy” and “The Handmaiden” would be a hotter commodity.
A Fall 2022 release, in multiple territories including the US and UK, is already in the works for the film.
The movie, due to release in 2027, is described as “a haunting Western thriller that follows a retired U.S. Marshal whose forty-year search for his wife’s killer leads him to an outlaw losing his memory.
